An Integer Programming Model for the Dynamic Location and Relocation of Emergency Vehicles: A Case Study

In this paper, we address the dynamic Emergency Medical Service (EMS) systems. A dynamic location model is presented that tries to locate and relocate the ambulances. The proposed model controls the movements and locations of ambulances in order to provide a better coverage of the demand points under different fluctuation patterns that may happen during a given period of time. Some numerical experiments have been carried out by using some real-world data sets that have been collected through the French EMS system.Comment: Proceedings of the 12th International Symposium on Operational Research (SOR'2013), Slovenia, September 2013, pp. 343-350, (2013

The Drone-Assisted Traveling Salesman Problem with Robot Stations

In this paper, we study the Drone-Assisted Traveling Salesman Problem with Robot Stations (TSP-D-RS). Specifically, we assume that there is a single truck that is equipped with a drone, and one or more potential sites of stations that might accommodate some robots. The TSP-D-RS asks for a valid route of the truck as well as feasible utilization of the drone and robots, such that all customers are served and minimal delivery time (makespan) or cost is accomplished. We provide a Mixed Integer Linear Programming formulation of the problem and perform a detailed numerical study. Through our numerical results, it is revealed that our formulation can be effectively addressed by a state-of-the-art solver. In addition, we demonstrate that optimizing the makespan coincides with reduced costs. In contrast, optimizing the operational costs might increase the makespan significantly. Furthermore, depending on the objective function, the operational utilization of the vehicles differs

The Way Digitalization is Impacting International Financial Markets: Stock Price Synchronicity

    Get PDF
This paper investigates whether and how the development level of a country\u27s digital economy affects stock price synchronicity. The results indicate that countries with high levels of digital economy development exhibit low stock price synchronicity. Additionally, by decomposing stock price synchronicity into systematic and firm‐specific stock return variations, we find that systematic (firm‐specific) variations of stock returns decrease (increase) with the level of a country\u27s digitalization. These findings shed light on the future trend of stock price synchronicity in financial markets around the world and support the information‐based interpretation of stock price synchronicity

A healthy diet, physically active lifestyle and maintaining normal weight constitute the cornerstones of prevention of several chronic diseases. The objective of this study is to determine the relationship between physical activity, Consumption of fruits and vegetables, high blood pressure. In this descriptive-analytical study, 1452 citizens (744 men and 708 women) in Sabzevar (Khorasan Razavi Province) aged between 20 to 65 years old were randomly selected in 2016. The population completed the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and their systolic and diastolic blood pressure was measured using a Digital Blood Pressure Monitor. Details of the nutritional status of the subjects under sex. SPSS software was used to analyze data. In the present study, the dairy consumption of the majority of people (48.1%) had a share of dairy consumption per day (milk and yogurt, cheese, cream and cheese), and 46.9% of the subjects were less than one share per day Dairy products. This study revealed that the level of physical activity is low in 46.2% of men and 44.2% of women that is less than 600 MET per week. In addition, 0.059% of the total population suffered from systolic blood pressure above 140 mm Hg and 10% of the total population had a diastolic blood pressure above 90 mm Hg.Una dieta saludable, un estilo de vida físicamente activo y mantener un peso normal constituyen las piedras angulares de la prevención de varias enfermedades crónicas. Simultaneous retrograde venous and anterograde arterial bullet embolism: a case report

    Get PDF
Background Bullet embolus is a rare condition following gunshot injuries and represents a clinical challenge regarding both diagnosis and management. Case presentation We report the case of a 35-year-old Iranian (Middle-Eastern) male patient with a shotgun injury to both buttocks, which traveled to the heart and the popliteal area through the femoral vein and superficial femoral artery, respectively. Surgical intervention was applied for the popliteal pellet, and the patient was discharged without further complications. Conclusion Although bullet emboli can be a clinical challenge, with the advent of modern procedures, removal has become safer. X-ray, computed tomography, and transthoracic and/or transesophageal echocardiography may be used as adjuncts to help establish the diagnosis

<div class="msocomtxt" id="com1" language="JavaScript" onmouseout="msoCommentHide('com1')" onmouseover="msoCommentShow('anchor1','com1')">Background: Gastric disorders are one of the most common human ailments, which impose a huge economic burden on countries. In Persian Medicine (PM), it is possible to predict the susceptibility to gastric diseases with diagnosis of gastric Mizajes (temperaments) and dystemperaments. The semiology of gastric dystemperaments has been investigated in PM textbooks, although the value of each sign and symptom is not mentioned. Consequently, this research is designed to determine the major and minor criteria for classifying gastric dystemperaments on the basis of valid manuscripts and with the help of PM specialists in the present era. Methods: This was a consensus-based study consisting of four phases. In the first phase, reference PM textbooks were studied. Symptoms and signs of gastric dystemperaments were collected and listed in four groups. In the second phase, semi-structured interviews with a sample of PM experts were carried out. Phase three included a focused group discussion with experts. Eventually, findings were integrated from the three study phases in a two-day meeting in Sari City. Results: Selected criteria included eight major and eight minor criteria for hot-cold dystemperament, as well as six major and eight minor criteria for wet-dry gastric dystemperament. Conclusion: Modern lifestyles and the interfering factors are responsible for some changes in diagnostic signs and symptoms according to PM. This was the first step to coordinate PM diagnostic criteria for gastric dystemperaments. Further studies are recommended to reach a unique protocol in the field of PM diagnostics. The next step includes design and validation of national diagnostic tools. &#160
